Welcome to the latest edition of FMTC’s Tech Corner. 

Product Feeds are crucial for staying up-to-date with merchant inventories and driving conversions through accurate listings. However, Raw product feeds from various merchants and networks are often inconsistent and messy. FMTC’s unified product feed solves this by normalizing the data across these sources and transforming the messy and unstructured data into a clean and standardized format, making it easier to work with and integrate across multiple sources without the hassle of merchant inconsistencies.

After 5 years in Beta, we’re excited to announce the release of FMTC’s Products API v1.0.0. This release includes significant enhancements and the introduction of a dedicated manufacturer Brands API, both designed to improve data accuracy, streamline integration, and provide more granular control over product and manufacturer brand information.

What’s New in Version 1.0.0

The transition from the Beta version to version 1.0.0 involves several key changes:

  • URL Structure: The latest endpoints are now accessed via https://s3.fmtc.co/api/1/ENDPOINT_NAME, replacing the old services.fmtc.co domain. This change eliminates the need for the mode parameter, which will simplify requests. 
  • Creation Timestamps: We have added a created_at time so that a product can be seen when it is initially created and after subsequent updates.
  • Deprecated Parameters: We’ve removed mode, seed, and stagger parameters, simplifying the API call structure.
  • Response Formatting: Products are now returned individually rather than grouped by cross_merchant_id, reducing response sizes and improving performance.
  • Field Renaming: Several fields have been renamed for consistency and clarity (e.g., CMID to cross_merchant_id, ID to product_id).

🗓 Reminder: the Beta version will shut down on July 31, 2025, and all users should transition to the latest production version before that date to avoid service interruptions.

Introducing the Brands API

The new Manufacturer Brands API offers a dedicated endpoint to retrieve detailed brand information, enhancing data normalization and reducing redundancy in the Products API.

Key Features:

  • Brand Hierarchy: Access to both parent and child brand relationships.
  • Detailed Brand Data: Retrieve brand names and associated IDs for better categorization.

In the Products API, the brand_id field links to the Brands API, allowing you to fetch comprehensive brand details as needed.

What’s Next: More Products, Better Data

Version 1.0.0 marks a major technical leap forward for FMTC’s product data delivery. With versioned endpoints, standardized fields, and dedicated brand references, we’ve made product feed integration smoother and more scalable. As a result, subscribers will be able to retrieve a significantly larger and more complete dataset from the endpoints moving forward.
